“A few weeks ago, I set out to capture a moment in time for some strong and resilient families in my neighborhood in the form of a little “porch portrait project”. I hoped to lift spirits, give my friends a chance to get that 2020 Easter photo or just wrap their arms around those dearest to them for a quick photo. What I really didn’t expect was for it to fill MY heart with so much joy in the process AND to meet such a wonderful friend and extremely gifted photographer, Cheryl Malloch . I scheduled 25 families and met Cheryl in my neighborhood to start out on our adventure. Cheryl insisted that she wanted to donate her talents, but if anyone was interested in “paying it forward”, she suggested donating to a local charity to help other families who were struggling financially because of the lock down. Cheryl and I went from house to house, seeing all these amazing families emerge. I had no idea how much FUN it would be! We turned out to be a great team, fueled by seeing all these wonderful families at all various stages of life. I was amazed at Cheryl’s positive spirit. She was simply thrilled to be giving moments of joy. It was so refreshing for me to witness. What a beautiful person! So, I set out to bring some joy to the families in my neighborhood, but I really feel like I got so much more in return. The portraits are beautiful and each family was delighted and amazed at Cheryl’s talent and generosity as well as her sweet, calm demeanor. I heard many say that they would like to have her take their Christmas portraits or some beach photos this summer. For me, I would LOVE to work with Cheryl again (as her volunteer assistant) because it really was THAT much fun. I told her that I’d set up some Fall minis and/or some Christmas minis. More recently Cheryl took pictures of my son and his girlfriend when they learned they were going to miss out on their senior prom due to COVID-19.
